The Agricultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme (AIEP) in Guyana is a government-led initiative designed to enhance food production and create entrepreneurial opportunities, particularly for young people. Launched in January 2022, the programme integrates modern agricultural techniques with business development skills to foster the establishment of sustainable agribusinesses.

In 2024, AIEP achieved significant milestones, including the introduction of agro-processing initiatives featuring innovative products such as cauliflower rice, croutons, pepper jelly in three spice levels, carrot jam, and carrot marmalade—now available at the Guyana Shop. The programme also initiated plant nurseries in regions 3, 5, and 10, along with two cluster groups in region 2 and three in region 6.

The programme actively engages with stakeholders across the Caribbean and locally, hosting delegations, farmers’ groups, special interest groups, and schools. AIEP’s management team participates in major national events, including the University of Guyana’s Career Day, nationwide farmers’ market days, the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, and various school career fairs.

AIEP is committed to youth empowerment in agriculture, and plans to introduce 300 young people to advanced hydroponic farming techniques. Three state-of-the-art hydroponic facilities in regions 2, 5, and 10 are nearing completion, positioning the programme at the forefront of innovative and climate-smart agriculture in Guyana.
